Spring Cleansing!

According to traditional Chinese wisdom, this is the perfect time to cleanse our systems and to return to full energy and vitality. During winter, our body temperature drops and we may be drawn to more fats and sugars. Our dietary choices reflect the need to store energy and build insulating fat for warmth. At this time of year a spring clean is exactly what the liver needs.

For one week, avoid all animal fats, sugars, white flour, dairy and alcohol, and increase your intake of raw food. Start every day with a breakfast of organic porridge oats with fresh fruit and seeds, have a large raw salad for lunch (include sprouted grains), and for your evening meal have a large helping of home-made vegetable soup with lots of green leafy vegetables. Broccoli and kale are particularly good (kale helps detoxify and rejuvenate), and add a little turmeric which is good for clearing the liver. As spring is the perfect time to cleanse, have a green power smoothie every day, this will flood the body with nutrients. Juice two carrots, one apple and two sticks of celery in your juicer, then pour the mixture into a blender and add some spinach and kale or cucumber. If you are feeling adventurous add some spirulina.

Increase physical activity to 30 minutes exercise a day. One week later you will notice just how rejuvenated you feel.
