Cancer Support through Diet

It is well know that diet can contribute to the development of cancer. If this is the case then diet can also be used as a protective measure against cancer development. In addition diet can also play a therapeutic role in cancer treatments. Food has become high in pro-carcinogenic substances such as pesticides and chemical fertilisers.

To reduce cancer risk replace these foods with organic grown products. Foods referred to as ‘super foods’ are known to have anti-cancer properties and should be increased in our diet.

Increase/add the following to your diet:

  • Garlic, which stimulates our natural protection against cancer cells whilst not harming healthy cells.
  • Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, Brussel sprouts, and cauliflower contain anti-cancer compounds.
  • Carotenoids and bioflavonoids found in colourful fruits and vegetables are full of antioxidants that help the body detox and may inhibit tumour growth. Examples include carrots, beets, spinach, and tomatoes.
  • Red, blue, or purple coloured fruits are rich in antioxidants and phytochemicals which support detoxification which is of great importance to remove carcinogenic compounds from our bodies.
  • Green tea contains flavonoid EGCG which promotes the death of cancer cells.

For cancer patients it is very important to get the correct balance and quality of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. The nutritional goal for cancer patients is to support health, whilst minimizing side effects of cancer treatment.
